Kussmaul StartGuard
The Kussmaul StartGuard is an engine-start voltage stabilization system designed to provide supplemental power to sensitive electronic equipment during vehicle cranking. Designed for fire apparatus, ambulances, rescue vehicles, command vehicles, and other specialty vehicle applications, the StartGuard helps prevent temporary voltage drops from causing microprocessor-based radios, computers, voice transmitters, data transmitters, and other electronics to reboot or lose programmed memory.
The StartGuard contains an internal 5 Ah sealed rechargeable lead-acid battery that automatically switches online when the starter switch or solenoid is engaged. The internal battery provides supplemental power to connected electronics during the engine starting sequence, helping maintain stable operating voltage. Once the engine is running and vehicle system voltage returns to normal, the StartGuard automatically switches offline and the internal battery is recharged by the vehicle's alternator for the next starting cycle.
Two separate starter sense terminals allow the StartGuard to be used on vehicles equipped with dual engines or ignition switches. With a maximum output capacity of 20 amps, automatic operation, and integrated rechargeable backup power, the StartGuard provides dependable protection for sensitive vehicle electronics during engine starting.
