The Kussmaul Soft Start is a precision solid-state load management controller designed to sequentially energize and de-energize multiple electrical loads in fire apparatus, ambulances, rescue vehicles, command vehicles, and other specialty vehicle electrical systems. By gradually applying and removing electrical loads, the Soft Start helps minimize sudden voltage drops and alternator voltage transients that can affect sensitive onboard electronic equipment.

The Soft Start controls up to seven electrical loads, sequentially switching each load ON at 1/2-second intervals when the Master Control switch is activated. When the Master Control switch is turned OFF, the loads are sequentially de-energized at the same 1/2-second intervals. Individual switches can be installed to select which outputs participate in the sequence and allow operators to manually turn individual outputs ON or OFF as needed.

Designed to control external load relays, the Soft Start supplies 12 VDC to energize connected relays and allows load shed priority to be programmed based on vehicle electrical system requirements. A plug-in connector simplifies installation, while the solid-state design provides dependable operation in demanding emergency and specialty vehicle applications.
