Kussmaul Safety Lock 4
The Kussmaul Safety Lock 4 allows emergency vehicle operators to safely leave a vehicle running while removing the ignition key, ensuring continuous power to critical onboard equipment such as radios, mobile computers, warning lights, and HVAC systems. Designed for fire apparatus, ambulances, law enforcement vehicles, and other emergency response vehicles, the Safety Lock 4 provides a secure idle-lock feature that prevents unauthorized vehicle movement while maintaining engine operation.
Once activated using a momentary switch, the Safety Lock 4 bypasses the ignition switch, allowing the operator to remove the key without shutting down the engine. The system is designed to work with a foot brake switch, neutral safety switch, or parking brake switch. If any of these controls are operated in an attempt to move the vehicle, the Safety Lock 4 immediately disengages and interrupts the ignition circuit, shutting down the engine. Upon returning, the authorized operator simply inserts the ignition key and turns it to the ON position to restore normal operation.
The Safety Lock 4 incorporates four internal relays, allowing the unit to control the ignition bypass while simultaneously energizing up to three auxiliary circuits, making it an excellent solution for vehicles requiring additional powered accessories during unattended operation.
