Kussmaul Load Manager
The Kussmaul Load Manager is a precision solid-state load management controller designed to sequence electrical loads, monitor vehicle battery voltage, and automatically shed non-critical loads to help prevent electrical system overload. Designed for fire apparatus, ambulances, rescue vehicles, command vehicles, and other specialty vehicle electrical systems, the Load Manager helps maintain system voltage while reducing power surges that can affect sensitive onboard electronic equipment.
The Load Manager controls up to seven relay outputs, sequentially energizing and de-energizing connected relays at 1/2-second intervals through a Master Control switch. Individual switches can be installed to select which outputs are active and allow operators to manually turn individual outputs ON or OFF as needed. Gradually applying and removing electrical loads helps minimize sudden voltage drops and alternator voltage transients caused by simultaneously switching multiple high-demand circuits.
In addition to load sequencing, the Load Manager continuously monitors the vehicle's 12 VDC battery system. When electrical demand exceeds alternator output and system voltage drops below the 11.5-volt set point, the controller automatically begins shedding selected loads. Up to five outputs can be automatically load shed, and only the number of loads necessary to maintain system voltage are de-energized. The load shed priority sequence can be programmed using internal switches accessible through a removable cap.
An output indicator terminal allows connection of a remote LED to indicate when the load shed function is active. A remote bypass switch can also be installed to completely bypass automatic load management and allow manual relay operation. The Load Manager controls external relays, features a plug-in connector for simplified installation, and is backed by a 3-year manufacturer's warranty.
