The Kussmaul Chief Series Smart Charger 4012 is a high-power, intelligent battery charger designed to charge and maintain up to three 12-volt battery banks in fire apparatus, rescue vehicles, ambulances, and other emergency or specialty vehicles. Delivering up to 40 amps of charging output, the Chief Series 4012 combines advanced battery charging technology, an integrated touchscreen display, CAN Bus connectivity, Parasitic Load Compensation, and Pump Plus functionality in a compact, low-profile package.

Dual Battery Type Technology allows the charger to simultaneously charge battery banks with two different battery chemistries. The system supports Flooded Lead-Acid, Gelled Electrolyte, AGM, Odyssey®, Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP), and custom battery charging configurations. Selectable Float and 3-Step charging profiles provide flexibility for different vehicle electrical systems and battery requirements.

Parasitic Load Compensation allows the installer to enter the vehicle's total accessory load current so the charger can adjust the absorption-stage transition point. This helps the batteries properly transition to float voltage despite continuous electrical loads from onboard equipment and helps prevent extended charging cycles or overcharging caused by parasitic loads.

A built-in touchscreen LCD provides convenient access to battery charging information, charger status, and system settings. CAN Bus connectivity supports integration with compatible vehicle communication systems, while an optional remote touchscreen control panel and compatible Super Auto Eject Deluxe Cover provide additional monitoring options.

The integrated Pump Plus feature supports compatible vehicle air compressor applications, while rotating mounting feet simplify installation in space-constrained vehicle compartments. An IP32-rated enclosure provides increased ingress protection, making the Chief Series Smart Charger 4012 well suited for demanding vehicle-mounted applications.
