The Kussmaul Auto Charge 1000 is a compact, microprocessor-controlled battery charger with Parasitic Load Compensation (PLC), designed to charge and maintain a single 12-volt battery bank in fire apparatus, rescue vehicles, ambulances, and other emergency or specialty vehicles. Providing 18 amps of total output capacity, the system combines a 15-amp battery charger with a separate 3-amp Battery Saver output to support vehicle battery maintenance and auxiliary electrical loads.

Parasitic Load Compensation is specifically designed for emergency vehicles that operate continuous accessory loads such as flashlights, gas detectors, computers, radios, and monitoring equipment. The system allows the installer to enter the vehicle's total parasitic load current so the charger can adjust the absorption-stage transition point. This allows the battery to properly transition to float voltage without accessory loads causing extended charging cycles, helping prevent overcharging, overheating, and premature battery wear.

A precision electronic voltage controller monitors the battery without requiring separate sense wires. Battery type selection switches allow the charging system to be configured for Lead-Acid, Gel Cell, AGM, or Odyssey batteries, while selectable Float and 3-Step charging modes provide additional flexibility for different battery maintenance requirements.

The separate Battery Saver output provides 13 VDC at up to 3 amps for compatible auxiliary loads. When the Battery Saver is turned off, the charger can provide up to 18 amps of charging output to the battery. Optional remote displays and compatible Super Auto Eject Deluxe Covers provide additional vehicle-mounted charging system monitoring options.
